11 Ways Apple Cider Vinegar Can Revolutionize Your Health

What’s a home without raw apple cider vinegar? It has been used for centuries as a powerful cure-for-all. It contains many essential vitamins and trace elements like calcium, magnesium, potassium, and copper.

When I published the previous article about 10 uses for apple cider vinegar (ACV) for great health and at home, little did I know how many questions I would get about other uses of ACV for our health. Due to the interest of many of my readers, I’ve decided to write about other uses of apple cider vinegar that can literally revolutionize your health !

Here’s a list of the rather impressive benefits that can revolutionize your health that haven’t been mentioned in the previous article:

1. Aids Weight Loss

ACV is no weight loss miracle on its own, but it can definitely help you on the way. It speeds up metabolism, is low in calories, the acetic acid suppresses your appetite, and reduces water retention.

Some studies even report that ACV interferes with the starch digestion, meaning fewer calories end up in your bloodstream. And it doesn’t stop there, ACV can help your body to break down fat instead of storing it. So if your aim is to lose weight, use ACV instead of dressings or mayonnaise.

Weight loss remedy: add 2 tablespoons of ACV to 16 ounces of water and sip during the day. You could add a little bit of honey for a better taste. Many woman swear by the use of ACV to reduce cellulite. Add 1 part of ACV to 2 parts of any massage oil of your liking (sweet almond, jojoba, coconut oil). Gently Massage the cellulite affected areas, make circular movements. Repeat this twice a day, preferably in the morning and evening until desired result. 3. Treats Diabetes

The effect of ACV on blood sugar levels is one of the best researched and the most promising. Like mentioned above, ACV interferes with starch or carb digestion and slows down absorption of sugar into the bloodstream. This helps to prevent blood sugar spikes. Several studies have found that vinegar may help lower glucose levels.

For example, webMD website mentions a small 2007 study with type 2 diabetes found that taking two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before bed lowered glucose levels in the morning by 4%-6%.

It might also reduce diabetes-related complications such as heart issues, impotence, nerve damage, and blindness. 4. ACV For a Healthy Heart

ACV’s acetic acid can reduce blood pressure and LDL or bad cholesterol. ACV decreases the levels of triglycerides and low density lipoproteins (LDL) in your blood and increases the levels of high-density lipoproteins (HDL) or good cholesterol.

According to webMD website, some studies reported that ACV may kill cancer cells or slow their growth thanks to the high levels of the antioxidant beta-carotene (special form of vitamin A). Antioxidants protect your body against free radicals. Those are highly reactive molecules that can damage your body’s cells and tissues.

Leafy greens are a good source of calcium, but your body isn’t able to absorb the most out of those greens. So including ACV in meals or having a mild tonic just before meals enables your body to absorb more calcium to build stronger bones and prevent osteoporosis. 9. Soothes Sore Throat

ACV has antiviral and antibacterial properties and can be used to soothe a sore throat at the moment you feel a prickle. Use a 1:1 dilution of ACV and water to gargle.

If you can’t bear the taste, try the following remedy: add 1 tablespoon ACV, the juice of half a lemon, and honey to 1 cup of warm water. Drink 3 times a day at first signs until symptoms disappear. You can also find here easy and effective syrup to relieve sore throat and cough.

10. Clears Blocked Sinuses

We all know the annoying feeling of a hiccup. Next time you’ll find yourself in this situation try ACV diluted in a bit of water. It is believed that ACV relaxes the nerves responsible for the muscle spasms that cause a hiccup. ACV also can restore the acid balance in your stomach, another cause of a hiccup.

Although ACV has many wonderful uses and health benefits, much more research needs to be done. But the results are promising and it is very obvious that raw ACV holds some strong healing properties.

Keep in mind that ACV’s main compound is acetic acid, so make sure to dilute it before use to avoid damage to your digestive tract and tooth enamel.

    when i used apple cider venigar, i started to feel the pain in my right foot. then i go to doctor to find out the reason why…. they checked me up and gave medecine to away the pain. i’ve been tru blood chem to find out what others illness might be came in… but all the result are all negative.. I thanks God i dont have any desase..but still i’ll feel the pain in my foot.I tried another doctor, then he told me that my potassuim was very low…i started to stop taking apple cider venigar just to recover the potssuim content and take off the pain…

      Perhaps the acv is in process of breaking up a build up of calcium in your foot and the pain is related to this????????

    The only reason I don’t use more of it is that I have pretty severe dental problems and don’t want to add to them by the acid of the vinegar corroding the enamel. You stated that it should be diluted to avoid this. What about when you just put it on your food, like greens and salad?

      Indeed diluting ACV is aimed to reduce teeth erosion and to prevent upset stomach and burning mouth and throat as it is very acidic. Also the concentrated form can interfere with medications (see more information in webMD website – http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-and-supplements/lifestyle-guide-11/supplement-guide-apple-cider-vinegar). Usually when you put it as a salad dressing, it is mixed with other ingredients, such as olive oil. I wouldn’t consume it in its undiluted form.

        I just read on that WebMD site that ACV can cause osteoporosis. I do have osteoporosis and have suffered multiple spinal compression fractures. Do you feel I should avoid it completely, even in salad dressing or as a flavoring on foods? I do not and would not drink it undiluted and do not drink it diluted either. I have not used it as a medicine this way.

          Perhaps it’s best to talk to your doctor and see his/her opinion as I’m not really sure.

            Jenny,for heaven`s sake do not talk to your medical doctor about health matters.They only spent 5 hours of their 5 years medical studies on health and nutrition.They know nothing about health and they will violently dismiss ACV as an aid for health maintenance as this is opposed to their drug regime.They only know about disease and they believe that there is a pill for every ill.

          ACV can exacerbate the loss of bone density. However, if you already have osteoporosis you should be dealing with that as a priority. It can take a year to reverse. You would need to take calcium and magnesium in eaqual doses either through your diet or good quality supplements. You also need Vitamin D3 which you get from sunlight, or quality supplementation, also Vitamin K2. It’s also a good idea to increase your intake of Potassium, bananas are an excellent source. You should avoid the ACV for the year, but I would advise taking a little once you’ve got the osteoporosos reversed.

            Correction. Magnesium and calcium need to be in ratio of 2:1. Not in equal parts!

            They say that vitamin k2(not k) found in GHEE(clarified butter) helps with the absorption of calcium into the bones. It is also supposed to be good for constipation.

          Quit eating processed foods, including pasteurized milk. Drink raw milk, eat spinach, drink the ACV 1 tbs. wih 1 cup water 2 times per day. Make all foods from scratch! You want grilled cheese? Get real cheese from the farm and make your own bread and use farm butter. It’s a bitch at first, but it’s worth it if you value your life and health and being pain free and feeling 20 at age 60. Ya heard?!

      • Through my research my knowledge apple cider vinegar are consider low alkaline foods not acidic!how true is this more info please.

          Hi Estella, even though vinegar is acidic, when we take ACV it has an alkaline effect in our bodies (the same for lemons for example). There is often misunderstanding of ACV or lemon’s pH outside the body versus inside the body. Outside the body they are acidic. Inside the body however they are fully metabolized and the minerals are dissociated in the bloodstream, and the effect is alkalizing.

    hi i have a jar of unfiltered ACV here,can it be bad when u buy it i tryed it with breafast and lunch and almost tossed them after i ate themfor quite awhile i been using ACV on lots that i eat mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm but its just store brand how much can u use at one time??is the raw just that strong?GB

      You don’t consume ACV in its concentrated form as it’s very acidic and can erode teeth enamel, cause upset stomach, burn your mouth and throat, reduce bone density over time and interfere with certain medications. Dilute 2 teaspoons of ACV in a glass of water and drink it. You can add a little bit of honey to improve the taste.

    hi!i have hypertension and i want to trim down my weight..i read this ACV and i think it’ll help me..the only thing that bothers me is that im taking my daily maintenance for my hypertension..is it ok to try acv???pls help me..tnx!

      If you take any medications for hypertension it’s best to talk to your doctor before taking ACV. Although according to webMD website consuming ACV in food amounts is likely safe (for example when diluting 1-2 tsp ACV with a glass of water), I still think it worth consulting with your doctor just to be on the safe side of things.

      Hi Elizabeth, According to Dr. Mercola, there are no official guidelines about taking vinegar internally. Some people take one to two teaspoons a day, mixed in a glass of water or juice, before meals or in the morning, and report benefits from doing so. Dr. Mercola says that the risk of taking small amounts of apple cider vinegar seems low, but large quantities may cause low potassium levels and lowers bone density and may interact with certain medications, so if you’re planning to use it on a daily basis make sure not to use large quantity and to consult your doctor to avoid interactions with the medicines you’re taking.

    Hi, is ACV also good for varicose veins? I think i read it bfore in your previous article, quite sure.. I wanna know how to use it or probably how to make that i can use as a massage for the affected areas.. Thanks a lot!

      Hi Jane, I’ve seen several references that ACV may help to improve varicose veins. There is little scientific proof that this works, but it remains a common folk remedy. There are 2 ways to use ACV for varicose veins. The first way is to mix about 1-2 tablespoon in a glass of water and drink once a day. The second way is to apply it topically. Mix ACV and your skin lotion or witch hazel in equal quantities and apply this to your varicose veins and rub gently stroking upwards towards the heart. Do this twice a day. Or soak a cloth in ACV and place it on the affected area. Let it sit there for about 20-30 minutes. You may also rub gently with this ACV soaked cloth. Give it time (at least few weeks) and see if you notice any improvement.

      Hi Rosemary, I’ve seen only one reference that says that ACV taken daily works to shrink a goiter and regulate the body’s systems naturally, but I don’t know how much truth there is into it. Generally speaking, ACV has many health benefits but is not considered a cure for any disease or condition. As for how long to drink it – this can be part of your regular diet. You can drink it once a day for several days and have a break for several days, and so on.

    I have acidity and I get a very hard stomach with nauseous feeling and sometimes it leads to vomiting I am taking omprezoles and tetrazoles for my stomach is it advisable to use AVC with water for relief of such symptoms.

      Hi Sohail, I’m not familiar with these medications and I don’t know if the ACV can interact with them or not, so best to talk to your doctor before consuming ACV to be on the safe side of things.

    I used acv, topically, when I started radiation for my breast cancer. I NEVER burned. At the end of 6 1/2 weeks I had a VERY faint, straight, tan line. I never experienced any pain. Even after the final week of increased radiation.

    That hiccup thing? It works! Have never known anything touch them once they start: a teaspoon of cider vinegar in a little water just killed them dead.
