8 Health Benefits of Drinking Lemon Water

I use a lot of lemon in salad dressing or tea, but simply drinking warm water with lemon is not something I do regularly. But after finding out all the health benefits of drinking lemon water, this is something I’m going to do more frequently.

8 Health Benefits of Drinking Lemon water:

1. Better digestion

Lemon may help a large number of digestive problems when combined with hot water, such as nausea, heartburn and parasites. Lemon helps the bowel to dispose waste, including preventing constipation. The lemon reduces the amount of mucus production in the body, helps dissolve gallstones and acts as a liver cleansing and detoxifying. 2. Superior for the skin

The lemon is a natural antiseptic that can treat skin problems. Lemon is rich in vitamin C, which is in part responsible for the appearance of a healthy skin and can help alleviates wrinkles and spots on the skin. You can use lemon directly on the skin to reduce scarring damage.

3. Better dental care

Lemon water is also good for dental care. Using lemon water on painful teeth may relieve the pain. Using lemon water on gums can also stop them from bleeding. But beware that lemon may also cause some damage to the enamel surfaces of the teeth, so don’t overuse it.

4. Cures throat infections

The lemon helps us in treating throat infections, such as sore throat. Just Squeeze half a lemon with half a glass of water and gurgle frequently and the sore throat will soon disappear.

5. Superb for our diet

One of the better things about lemon water is that it make us lose weight faster. One reason is that lemon is full of pectin fibers that make us feel satisfy for longer. So just mix lemon with lukewarm water and honey – it may help your diet.

6. Controls high blood pressure

Lemon water helps to control high blood pressure, vertigo, nausea, as well as provide peace and relaxation to the body. Water with lemon were found to help relieve stress and depression.

7. Reduces fever

Water with lemon may help people suffering from cold or flu. This is probably caused by increased sweat due to the lemon consumption, which helps to reduce fever.

8. Source of antioxidants

Water with lemon is an excellent source of antioxidants, which prevent the development of free radicals in our body. Also water with lemon can help us in treating hangover. Water with lemon have no calories just like plain water, but they taste better, help balance blood sugar, stimulate metabolism and cleanse our skin.

Instructions:

- It is recommended to drink water with lemon every morning, on an empty stomach (a glass of warm water with the juice of a quarter or half a fresh lemon).
- It is recommended to drink another cup also in the evening.
- It is recommended to avoid extreme temperatures of water (hot or cold), so as not to damage the stomach lining.
- It is recommended to drink water lemon with a straw to prevent damage to the tooth enamel.

    I have been drinking hot lemon with honey as part of my regimen in the morning. It helps me reduce my weight and size of my tummy. It also taste nice and appreciate it. I add some slices of ginger and make also taste great.

        When consumed internally it’s easier to consume lemon water, as pure lemon juice is just too sour to drink, and you enjoy the benefits of drinking water which is important by itself.

          Does it have to be the juice of a fresh lemon, or can you use the bottled or from concentrate lemon juice? If you can use the bottled, what would be the amount (teaspoon/tablespoon?)?

            Fresh lemon is the best because it retains the nutrients which are time sensitive. Bottled lemon juice may have additives that have very little to do with lemons (like citric acid, sugar and water). The amount which is usually used is the juice of half a fresh lemon in 12 to 16 ounces of water.

    When I go to a restaurant to eat, I always order water with lemon slices instead of a soda or other sugary drink. Don’t know why, I just have been doing it for years.

    Jenny, I asked about getting your info in book form and you got back to me very quickly, thank you. Since the lemon water was just published on FB I thought I would ask this question now. I know the benefits of the lemon and want to know if Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar does the same things and works the same way. Can one use either of them interchangeable and get the same results. If not what are the differences? I use a lot of ACV and it is suppose to help with artheritis. Does it do all of the other things that lemons do.

      It might be that you put too much lemon in the water, so either reduce a bit the amount or lemon, or add honey to sooth your throat or don’t use it a day after day, but rather 3-4 times a week.

    I’ve been drinking lemon water for yrs now as I had a scan and was told I have a 2.1cm gallstone. I read it can dissolve gallstones, have you heard of this or anyone this has worked for? I am NOT removing my gallbladder! Tks alot

    When you have to qualify all you propositions with “it may” you know there isn’t any scientific evidence to support your assertions. I can say all of the above about chewing fat cubes too, and be just as correct.

      Hi Joe, in the field of natural health the scientific evidence is often not enough to use the words “it will”. Many studies are not conclusive or not big enough or further research is needed. Although there has not been a large amount of scientific work in the form of clinical trials to authenticate certain claims, I believe this is due to the fact that we are talking about natural substances and therefore can’t be patented by the large Pharma corporations. This is one of the main reason the world of western medicine dismisses alternative treatments as ‘complementary medicine’ at best. If you want to chew fat cubes and believe it’s going to help you – you are most welcome to do it!

    I have loved lemons my whole life … I actually peel and eat them like oranges . Just curious if the same benefits are achieved or does lemon juice have to be added to water ?

      Hi Theresa, many people can’t eat lemons like oranges because they are too sour, hence it’s is diluted in water. But if you like them as is, you don’t have to add water. Just bear in mind one thing – I have read that the acids in fresh lemons can damage your teeth because they cause the enamel on the surface to wear away, leaving the teeth more susceptible to cavities and decay. I’ve read that sucking on fresh lemons or drinking undiluted lemon juice is the most damaging because the acids stick to your teeth. It is recommended that if you add lemon juice to water or tea, drink the beverage through a straw to keep as much of the acid off your teeth as possible, and limit your intake of whole lemon segments as well.

      If you drink too much lemon water, it may trigger heartburn, or make this condition worse if you tend to suffer from it.

      Drinking too much lemon with water may trigger heartburn, or make this condition worse if you’re used to experiencing it.

    Lemon is not so commonly available in my country, Nigeria; but we have the sister citrus, the Lime, in abundance. Lime does the same, but my fear now, it’s like, if it’s taken for long, it results into infertility or impotence.

    Vitamin C also nutralizes chlorine,only a few drops in a glass needed or throw a used lemon skin in a bath.Namaste.:)

    Hi Jenny, am most grateful for your generous sharing of info’s. I am not concerned about the possibility of lime juice affecting fertility issue. Other than this, will drinking lime water give the same benefits as lemon water since limes are grown in abundance in my country? Thank you in advance.

    I love using lemons with pretty much dish I prepare for my family. Lemon water on an empty stomach first thing in the morning and again at evening is brilliant. My skin is glowing and haven’t been sick in a while. Amazing stuff.

    To make a lemon water, do i have to squeze the lemon to get the juice or it is sufficient to slice the lemon

      If you slice the lemon you will get less of its juices in comparison to squeezing it, so it’s better to squeeze it to better enjoy its benefits.
